Sea-Watch e.V. is a non-profit initiative dedicated to the civil sea rescue of refugees. In view of the humanitarian disaster in the central Mediterranean Sea-Watch provides emergency aid, demands and at the same time forces the rescue by the responsible European institutions and publicly stands up for legal escape routes. We are politically and religiously independent and are financed exclusively by donations.

 

The Operational Coordination Department (OC) is looking for an

 

Operational Coordination (f/m/d).

 

They will work on tasks related to our ship operations from land, together with the already existing team of the three land based Search and Rescue Coordinators (SARCOs), the Mission Support & OPS Departments Facilitator. The position is offered for a year until 30.06.2023 with the possibility that the contract gets renewed. The job contains 30 hours of work per week and is favourably done in Berlin as the organisation is based there – but can also be done from a remote place with regular travels to Berlin. The position is initially limited to 12 months with the possibility of an extension.

Your assignments within the departments objectives:

Operational Coordination Facilitation:

  • Responsible for organizing, facilitating and ensuring decision making of project specific working groups and operational meetings
  • Coordinating and facilitating exchange within Sea-Watch operational related-departments
  • Strengthening links and ensuring alignment and a joint output of operational departments, our ship(s), Airborne and the association

Department Support & Operational improvement:

  • Facilitation of regular evaluation and improvement processes of our operation and assessment and development of an operational vision
  • Organising and facilitating of capacity building through trainings for volunteers and staff
  • Operational back-up: support of the operational back office structures in daily operations of our assets if needed

Focal point for operational topics & volunteers:

  • Focal point for Sea-Watch activists and employees but also on request involved in representation and networking with other NGOs and activist networks regarding operations in close exchange and agreement with Air Head of Missions and SARCOs.
  • Focal point for OC volunteers who will be involved on a project base, specific topics or for a specific time frame
  • Moderation/facilitation of OPS related discussions, topics & proposals including online platform discourse

You should bring the following skills:

  • Great ability to coordinate different teams, groups and departments simultaneously – especially in stressful situations
  • Good ability to prioritize, organize and delegate
  • Confident in decision taking and taking the lead
  • A high degree of initiative and commitment (flexibility in the evenings and/or weekends)
  • A good ability of mediation, conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
  • Well informed about the political situation in the central Mediterranean
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly (to meetings or base ports)
  • Excellent communication and moderation skills
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Ability to in work in volunteer based contexts
  • SAR experience is favoured but not mandatory
  • Identification and good knowledge of the vision and goals of Sea-Watch e.V.
