Sea-Watch is looking for a Visual Digital Designer (f/m/d)

Sea-Watch e.V. is a non-profit initiative dedicated to the civil sea rescue of people on the move. In view of the humanitarian disaster in the central Mediterranean Sea-Watch provides emergency aid, demands and at the same time forces the rescue by the responsible European institutions and publicly stands up for legal escape routes. We are politically and religiously independent and are financed exclusively by donations.

For Team Italy, we are seeking a Visual Digital Designer with a weekly workload of 20 hours, working from home (with the option to travel). The position is initially limited to 12 months, with the possibility of an extension.

Your responsibilities:

  • Support for the creation of graphic and social media content for Sea-Watch
    communication in Italy.
  • Graphic design of Instagram posts (cards and carousels) using softwares such as
    Figma and Photoshop, in close collaboration with the communication team.
  • Video editing for Instagram and TikTok, with strong attention to trends, contemporary
    languages and styles.
  • Support in writing scripts for video content, in line with trends and social media
    engagement strategies.
  • Participation in weekly meetings with the Italian team and other Sea-Watch
    departments.
  • Contribution to the development and evolution of the graphic style.
  • Occasional support for other graphic design and video editing tasks needed by the team.
  • Opportunity to support the team in proposing content, topics and formats aimed at
    expanding the community and increasing engagement on social media.
  • Participating in meetings with external key stakeholders to discuss operational trends, share experiences, and exchange best practices.
  • Assist in the development and upkeep of solidarity networks with essential stakeholders, while also promoting the organisation of collaborative events and initiatives.

Your profile:

  • Advanced knowledge of graphic design and video editing principles, with at least 3 years of experience in studies and/or working positions as art director, graphic designer, video editor or similar.
  • Excellent knowledge of Figma, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects.
  • Good knowledge of how the main social media platforms work, particularly Instagram, X/Twitter and TikTok, and ability to read, interpret and adapt trends and new tools.
  • Ability to process complex information, synthesize it and organize it by adapting it to the target audience and channel.
  • Ability to write scripts for social videos, with attention to audience engagement rules.
  • Ability to edit and cut videos in a dynamic and contemporary way with Premiere Pro and After Effects, optimizing them for social engagement.
  • Basic knowledge of videomaking, set design, lighting and audio is considered a plus.
  • Ability to work quickly and in close collaboration with the rest of the team, meeting tight deadlines in a continuously evolving context and on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interest in the Italian political context and good knowledge of curren developments: main topics in public debate, legislative moves and predominant narratives in the media.
  • Good writing skills (captions and longer texts) is considered a plus.
  • Good public speaking ability and on-camera content creation skills is considered a plus.
  • Inclination to learn with patience and interest how to address the complexity of the migration issue.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Italian and English, both written and oral.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills to assess problems, identify solutions and contribute to strategy definition.
  • Availability to work, if necessary, on holidays and to carry out business trips.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams and with keystakeholders.
  • A deep passion for social justice and strong alignment with Sea-Watch’s mission andvalues.
