Sea-Watch is looking for an intern in the Media and Press Department

Berlin, from mid-May/June for 3 months

Sea-Watch e.V. is a young NGO providing civil rescue services for refugees in distress on the Mediterranean Sea. The situation is getting worse and the work of humanitarian actors is made more difficult, both by European authorities and by the Libyan Coast Guard. At the same time, people die every week on Europe’s borders – a situation we cannot tolerate. That is why Sea-Watch demands safe and legal entry to the EU in addition to state-led rescue capacity at sea.
Our strength lies in innovative project ideas and their effective and rapid implementation. This also includes strong media relations. The Media and Press team is therefore looking for support in research and campaign work as part of a three-month internship at 40 hours per week in our Berlin office.

Your tasks:

  • Actively write to editorial offices and arrange interviews
  • Support in the social media sector: conception and writing of posts e.g. on Facebook and Twitter, as well as moderation of content
  • Research and editorial contributions on flight and migration
  • Collaboration on press releases and the organisation of press conferences
  • Translation of press statements
  • Structuring and maintaining the media archive (articles from/about Sea-Watch)
  • Expansion of media contacts and press distribution list

Dein Profil:

  • Identification with the goals and content of Sea-Watch e.V.
  • Interest in the situation of refugees and a high willingness to inform yourself in this area.
  • Experienced in social media
  • High social skills: flexibility, ability to work under pressure, independence and a good sense of humour
  • Very good linguistic expression in English required, another relevant language (German/French/Dutch/Italian) preferred
  • Basic knowledge of image/video/audio editing (e.g. Adobe Indd) is an advantage

We offer you:

  • A young and dynamic working environment
  • Insight into the press and public relations work of a political NGO
  • Challenging and varied tasks
  • Possibility to implement your own ideas
  • Payment of a BVG ticket for the period of the internship
We look forward to receiving your application! The application deadline is 20 April 2019.
