Sea-Watch is looking for a Facilitator intern (m/f/d) (30 hours per week) starting 15 June 2026

About us

Sea-Watch e.V. is a non-profit initiative dedicated to civilian sea rescue in the central Mediterranean. In the face of an ongoing, state-induced humanitarian disaster, we provide immediate emergency aid. We demand and push for rescue operations by the relevant European institutions and publicly advocate for legal routes of escape, freedom of movement and a Europe based on solidarity. Through our work, we raise awareness of the plight of refugees and the humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean. At the same time, we aim to encourage others to take action. Sea-Watch is politically and religiously independent and is funded exclusively by donations.

Our Organisational Support Team is a central pillar within the People, Culture & Organisation department and offers comprehensive support to promote efficiency and collaboration. It provides structural support to teams, working groups and projects, and offers training and coaching to strengthen self-organisation and the taking on of responsibility. The team’s main tasks include organisational development, improving collaboration and implementing new approaches and methods. This also involves supporting decision-making and providing the necessary tools and knowledge for various work processes.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an intern in the field of facilitation to join the team in our People, Culture & Organisation department as soon as possible, working 30 hours per week. The role can largely be carried out remotely, although you will need to come into the Berlin office on a regular basis. The internship lasts for 4 months.
As an intern in the field of facilitation, you will help to create the ideal conditions for effectively supporting our decision-making bodies in their work and decision-making processes. This involves assisting with the facilitation and management of groups, as well as supporting the further development of processes and structures.
You will contribute to shaping and maintaining a consistent organisational culture and help ensure that the decision-making circles operate in line with the organisation’s vision, values and goals. In doing so, you will learn the principles of servant leadership and apply them in your day-to-day work.
You will work closely with a facilitator and gain insights into working independently within the framework of defined goals and tasks. Through your systemic thinking and analytical skills, you will help to identify the needs of decision-making bodies and support their further development.

What to expect

  • You will help to establish the organisational framework for decision-making bodies, assist in facilitating meetings and promote solution-oriented collaboration. This includes coordinating meetings as well as preparing for and following up on them.
  • You will assist with the prioritisation of proposals, support decision-making processes using various methods, engage relevant stakeholders and contribute to the implementation and evaluation of decisions made.
  • You will ensure that decisions are properly documented and forwarded to the relevant departments. You will also assist with the maintenance of shared tools.
  • Together with the team, you maintain an overview, ensure clear role allocation and help to ensure that the working methods and processes of the teams and decision-making bodies remain structured.
  • Through your open and impartial attitude, you promote constructive dialogue.

What we’re looking for in you

  • You already have experience as a facilitator and/or moderator, assisting with the organisation of decision-making circles and helping with the preparation, running and follow-up of meetings.
  • You possess facilitation skills and a basic understanding of methods to guide group processes and bring about targeted decisions.
  • You will gain insights into decision-making processes, assist with prioritising topics and support the implementation of decisions.
  • You are good at putting yourself in others’ shoes and interact with people empathetically, whilst possessing strong communication skills.
  • You will help document decisions and support the maintenance and further development of tools.
  • You have experience in process control, (agile) project management and the use of digital tools (e.g. Kanban, Miro, Active Collab, Mattermost).
  • You will work closely with the team, keep track of tasks and help to ensure clear structures and processes.
  • You have a business-fluent command of written and spoken English. Ideally, you also have knowledge of German.

What you can expect

  • Induction and support covering both the role’s content and organisational aspects, as required
  • A wide range of learning and development opportunities in an exciting field
  • Flat hierarchies and plenty of scope for initiative
  • A meaningful working environment
  • The opportunity to take part in internal workshops and training courses, as well as events at which Sea-Watch is represented
  • A monthly salary of €925.00 (based on a 30-hour working week)
