Sea-Watch is looking for a Team Coordination (f/m/d)

20-30 h/ week, remote, Berlin – November or December 2024

 

Sea-Watch e.V. is a non-profit initiative dedicated to the civilian rescue of people on the move at sea. In view of the humanitarian catastrophe in the central Mediterranean Sea, Sea-Watch provides emergency aid, at the same time demands and pushes for rescue by the responsible European institutions and publicly stands up for legal escape routes. We are politically and religiously independent and are financed exclusively by donations.

For the Operational Coordination department, we are looking for a Team Coordinator (d/f/m) with a weekly workload of 20-30 hours, preferably in Berlin or in home office (with willingness to travel). The position is initially limited to 12 months with the possibility of an extension.

Within Sea Watch, the Operational Coordination department is responsible for overseeing and coordinating our search and rescue operations in the Central Mediterranean with our two naval assets, Sea Watch 5 and Aurora. It also functions as a focal point both internally for other operational departments and externally for other actors involved in civil Search and Rescue in the Central Mediterranean.

Team Coordination in the Operational Coordination department

As a Team Coordinator in the Operational Coordination department, you will be responsible for the management and coordination of around 9 team members who work in a decentralised manner. Through your experience and commitment, you will help the team to further build and develop the department, establish optimal self-organised cooperation, coordinate challenging and complex tasks and implement a sustainable structure. At the same time, you will work closely with Sea-Watch’s People, Culture & Organisation and Finances Department.

Your tasks:

  • You are responsible for the management and coordination of the team, consisting of 9 full-/part-time team members, and are the contact person for the team members concerns

  • You carry the personnel responsibility for all team members, including onboarding of new team members, carrying out feedback talks

  • You ensure role clarity and establishing and promoting individual development

  • You support the team by moderating team internal meetings, facilitating good cooperation, info-flow and workflows also through the allocation of necessary resources and promoting transparent decision-making processes

  • You maintain an overview of tasks that arise and are necessary and ensure that the prioritisation of tasks is regularly discussed and reviewed within the team.You take over the monitoring of processes, define standards and workflows in consultation with the team and optimise them

  • You are responsible for the administration of the team’s yearly budget, both the overview of day-to-day expenses as well as the forecasting of future expense

  • You promote team development and accompany the team on the way to independent working and promote participation and taking over responsibility

  • You are in regular contact with the team, lead discussions on your own responsibility and promote a sustainable working and feedback culture that is in harmony with our flat hierarchies

  • You recognise needs and conflicts at an early stage and proactively help to identify and implement solutions

Your profile:

  • You have at least three years of proven professional work experience in leading teams and/or project groups, preferably in flat-hierarchies.

  • You have sound experience in personnel management and team development

  • You have experience in budgeting

  • You have strong communication and organisational skills and are characterised by a structured and self-organised way of working with a hands-on mentality

  • You proactively and flexibly master unknown, changing challenges

  • You are empathetic to the needs of your team and are a motivator in a dynamic working environment

  • You have the ability to mediate between different interests and have a goal-oriented approach to problem solving

  • You have very good written and spoken German and English skills

  • Agility is not a foreign word for you, but if it is, you are not afraid of it
