Sea-Watch is looking for an Advocacy Officer (f/m/d) 10h/week

Office Berlin, Home Office, Start 01.09.2021

About us

Sea-Watch e.V. is a relatively young NGO dedicated to civil sea rescue and the recording and scandalising of human rights violations in the central Mediterranean Sea. In the face of the politics of letting people die in the central Mediterranean Sea, Sea-Watch provides emergency assistance, while at the same time demanding and pushing for rescue by the relevant European authorities and publicly advocating for safe and legal escape routes into the EU. We are politically and religiously independent and are financed exclusively by donations.

Our strength lies in innovative project ideas and their effective and rapid implementation. This also includes strong political work. The Advocacy Team is looking for an Advocacy Officer for five months at 10 hours per week as a holiday replacement.

Your tasks:

  • Political accompaniment of campaigns in cooperation with other international NGOs
  • Taking over on-call shifts to accompany our aircraft operations on weekdays and weekends
  • Maintaining contacts with representatives of the merchant vessel industry
  • Research on various issues (flight and migration, migration and asylum policy, German and EU policy)
  • Coordinating our advocacy work with the team in Italy
  • Preparing and participating in meetings with politicians, intergovernmental organisations and NGOs
  • Participation in internal and external events

Your profile:

  • Identification with the goals and topics of Sea-Watch e.V.
  • Activist and/or voluntary experience in the field of flight and migration
  • Good knowledge of German and European migration policy
  • Experience in political lobbying
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, German would be an additional advantage
  • Ability to work in a team, flexibility, resilience, independence and a sense of humour

We offer you:

  • A young, dynamic working environment
  • Extensive introductory briefing in your area of responsibility
  • The opportunity to critically accompany German and European migration policy and to document and publicise human rights violations
  • An insight into the typical work of an NGO
  • Participation in conferences, symposia, events and meetings with political decision-makers and civil society
  • The opportunity to implement your own ideas and proposals
  • Flexible working hours in the Berlin office or in a location-independent home office
  • Scope: 10 hours per week
  • Salary: 700 Euro (gross salary)
