Sea-Watch e.V. is a non-profit initiative dedicated to the civil sea rescue of people on the move. In view of the humanitarian disaster in the central Mediterranean Sea-Watch provides emergency aid, demands and at the same time forces the rescue by the responsible European institutions and publicly stands up for legal escape routes. We are politically and religiously independent and are financed exclusively by donations.

For our department Ship-Managemnet & Logistics we are looking for a Marine Superintendent and HSE Coordinator (f/m/d) with 40 hours per week, in a home office with occasional travel required to visit the vessel / Berlin Office and support operational and safety activities on site.

 

Your tasks:

Marine Operations (Superintendent Role)

  • Support the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the vessel.

  • Assist shipboard staff with operational guidance and compliance-related matters.

  • Help coordinate and monitor planned maintenance, repairs, and inspections.

  • Participate in remote and on-site inspections, audits, and PSC preparations.

  • Liaise with flag state, port state, classification societies, and other authorities as needed.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE Coordination)

  • Support the development and implementation of HSE systems and culture.

  • Assist in coordinating risk assessments, safety drills, and onboard safety procedures.

  • Promote HSE awareness and best practices.

  • Contribute to incident investigations and corrective/preventive action planning.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant maritime HSE regulations and NGO standards.

  • Willingness to act as Company Security Officer (CSO) and Designated Person Ashore (DPA) or as their deputy

 

 

Required skills and profile:

  • Certificate of Competency (e.g., Master Mariner, Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, or equivalent) preferred.

  • Previous experience in a Marine Superintendent and/or HSE-related role is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of international maritime regulations (ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, etc.).

  • Interest or experience in NGO, humanitarian, or non-profit maritime work environments is highly valued.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multicultural teams.
