Sea-Watch is looking for a Navigational Watch Officer (f/m/d)

starting in May 2025

Sea-Watch e.V. is a non-profit initiative dedicated to the civil sea rescue of peole on the move. In view of the humanitarian disaster in the central Mediterranean Sea-Watch provides emergency aid, demands and at the same time forces the rescue by the responsible European institutions and publicly stands up for legal escape routes. We are politically and religiously independent and are financed exclusively by donations.

 

For our department Crewing we are looking for a 3rd Officer (f/m/d). The position is initially limited to 12 months with wish to extend.

 

 

3rd Officer

The 3rd officer will work closely together with the master and the 1st & 2nd officer and will be working independently as one of the navigators of the ship and be part of the watch shifts. You will be responsible for all safety equipment on board. Together with the 1st officer, you will organize regular safety drills. Furthermore, you will work closely with the rest of the crew during SAR operations by supporting the master with log-keeping and external communication on the bridge.

 

Your Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Helping and assisting the Chief Officer in the periodic safety checks
  • Helping and assisting the 2nd Officer in voyage preparation and weekly corrections
  • In charge of inventories and orders for the bridge’s office equipment
  • Responsible for watchkeeping, the safety of the navigation, and safety on board during your watch
  • Assists in filling in the Deck Logbook, especially during your watch, and takes care of the respect of international regulations and prevention of pollution
  • When ship handling and maneuvering for departure/arrival, you join the forward or aft station, dependent on the master’s order

  • Two months on/off rotation:
    (2 months on board, 2 months leave, monthly salary will be paid as mentioned above)

Your Profile

  • Valid Certificate of Competence as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more (STCW A-II/1, German license OR COC from one of these countries
  • Valid General Operators Certificate GMDSS (STCW A-IV/2, German license OR GOC from one of the above-mentioned countries)
  • Good English language skills
  • Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word skills
  • Briliant and respectful teamplayer
  • Very good communication skills
  • Willingness to part take in the watch-plan
  • Willingness to do maintenance work all over the ship
  • Ability to work and live in a diverse team of 30 employees and volunteers some of whom will have limited nautical experience
  • Physical fitness and mental resilience
