Sea-Watch is looking for a Technical Manager Assistant (40h/week)

on board, in the current port or in the Berlin office (home office partly possible), immediately

Sea-Watch e.V. is a non-profit initiative dedicated to the civil sea rescue of refugees. In view of the humanitarian disaster in the central Mediterranean Sea-Watch provides emergency aid, demands and at the same time forces the rescue by the responsible European institutions and publicly stands up for legal escape routes. We are politically and religiously independent and are financed exclusively by donations.

Your assignments: 

  • Liaise with Technical manager and technical crew on board the ships.
    • Support the ship’s crew in the event of any technical problems, alongside, (and under the lead of), the technical manager.
    • Support the communication about and coordination of regular maintenance, technical problems and preparation of planned shipyard times
    • Regular visits on board the ships for company inspections, Port State Controls and for supporting the technical crew with repairs, maintenance and new technical projects
    • Representing the technical management on board
    • Stand in for technical manager during holidays or sick leaves, Deputy of Technical Manager
  • Technical Purchasing
    • Liaise with Technical manager and logistical team for prompt supply of stores and supplies for the vessels
    • Handle purchasing activities. Send enquiry/ requisitions to suppliers for quotations
    • Liaise with vessels on any information required pertaining to requisitions
    • Follow up with quotation from suppliers
    • Prepare purchase order and delivery order, etc.
    • Liaise with agents and ships for supply of spare parts and stores to vessels at convenient ports
    • Process and verify invoices against quotations, and ensure invoices are processed within the credit term period.
    • Document filing / printing of Invoices
  • Technical supervision of crew and ship‘s equipment on board
  • Assist with planning for technical port calls
    • Document filing / printing of Invoices
    • Plan maintenance periods as projects and assist management of those in coordination with Technical Manager, Ship Manager and Crew Manager
    • Assist with arrangements for surveys and inspections for vessels.
  • Other duties as assigned by ship manager/ technical manager

You should bring the following skills:

  • With at least 1-3 years working experience preferably in ship management/ shipping industry.
  • Training as marine engineer and good technical knowledge.
  • Able to converse in fluent English.
  • Willingness to travel and to spend time abroad.
  • Pleasant personality.
  • Very good communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Meticulous and ability to follow up on tasks/projects effectively.
  • Sense of urgency & able to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a multitasking environment.
